Cervical Disc Replacement in Las Vegas
Artificial disc replacement for a herniated or worn disc in the neck, as a motion-preserving alternative to ACDF fusion.

Cervical disc replacement removes a damaged disc in the neck through a small incision at the front and replaces it with an implant that moves. In Las Vegas, it's performed by neurosurgeon Dr. Jason E. Garber at the Disc Replacement Center of Las Vegas. Many patients go home the same or next day.
Who it helps
- Neck pain with pain, numbness or tingling into the shoulder, arm or hand
- Weakness or clumsiness in the arm or hand
- A herniated disc or bone spur pressing on a nerve root (cervical radiculopathy)
- Early spinal cord compression from a disc (myelopathy), when suited to replacement
Disc replacement vs. fusion in the neck
The standard alternative is anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). Both remove the disc the same way. ACDF fuses the two vertebrae; disc replacement keeps them moving, which reduces extra strain on the discs above and below.
Surgery and recovery
Most patients walk within hours and go home within a day. A soft collar is sometimes used briefly. Many return to desk work in about two weeks, with a gradual return to exercise over the following weeks.

Common questions
How long does cervical disc replacement take?
Usually one to two hours for a single level.
Is cervical disc replacement better than ACDF?
For the right patient, it can mean faster recovery and a lower chance of needing surgery at a neighboring level later. ACDF remains the better choice with significant arthritis, instability or poor bone quality.
Can two levels be replaced?
Yes. Some patients are candidates for two-level cervical disc replacement. Dr. Garber will tell you whether that fits your imaging.
