Welcome

A center built around one question: can we keep your spine moving?

The Disc Replacement Center of Las Vegas focuses on artificial disc replacement, and performs more of these procedures than almost any center in the country.

Our team is led by Dr. Jason E. Garber, a neurosurgeon trained in every surgical approach to the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. That breadth means he can recommend disc replacement when it fits, and tell you honestly when a fusion or a non-surgical plan is the better choice.

Is it right for you?

Signs you may be a candidate for total disc replacement

Disc replacement helps a specific group of patients. If several of these sound familiar, it's worth a conversation.

  • Neck pain that won't settle, with or without pain, tingling or weakness in the arms
  • Low back pain that has lasted months, with or without pain down the legs
  • Little or no relief from therapy, medication or injections
  • A diagnosis of degenerative disc disease
  • A herniated disc in the neck or lower back
  • Pain that has come back after an earlier disc surgery
  • A recommendation for spinal fusion that you'd like a second opinion on
Disc replacement vs. fusion

Why patients offered a fusion explore disc replacement

Both operations take pressure off nerves. Only one keeps the level moving, and that difference shows up in recovery and years later.

Back to work sooner

Many disc replacement patients return to desk work in two to three weeks, because there is no fusion that has to heal solid first.

Less stress on nearby discs

A fused level can't bend, so the discs above and below take up the slack. Studies report adjacent-level wear about one-third as often after disc replacement.

Natural motion

The implant lets that level of your spine bend, tilt and rotate, so you keep the range of motion a fusion gives up.

Fewer repeat surgeries

Research on neck surgery has found patients who had a fusion were three to five times more likely to need another operation at a nearby level.

The goal

Get back to what keeps you moving

Disc replacement is designed to relieve the pain and keep that part of your spine moving, so you can get back to the things you love doing.

“My family had a great experience with Dr Garber, first my husband and now my son. He is very professional and knowledgeable. My husband had back surgery with him (fusion L4-S1). Dr Garber was very clear as the beginning, told us everything that was going on and what to expect. I fully recommend him.”

“I have been a patient with Dr. Garber since a car accident in 2007. He has managed my shunt, my fusions, and my occipital nerve stimulator. He is the only neurosurgeon I will go to in Las Vegas. He is attentive, professional, caring, and extremely knowledgeable in the field for my multiple medical issues. His staff is simply awesome. Dustin, the PA, and Lise (the surgery scheduler) in particular have helped me beyond measure. I have had ease getting appointments scheduled, in-depth care, and surgery scheduled amazingly fast. Dr. Garber is a doctor I trust completely with my health and my life. I have no hesitation recommending Dr. Garber for all neurosurgical care. Before my last back fusion I was on serious pain meds and needed a walker. He gave me back a quality of life I couldn't dream of. The occipital nerve stimulator for migraines treatment was experimental when he put it in. 8 years later, I have reduced the frequency and severity of my migraines. He is simply the best medical choice.”
